Internship Program

High School Internship

The program introduces high school students to the professional work world of museums and provides a platform for academic growth and personal development.

​Students will participate in weekly workshops that introduce participants to the work world of museums, including sessions focused on why museums matter; careers in museum management; intro to the elements of exhibit design, event planning and program development.

​Students will also participate in field trips to local museums where they will receive behind-the-scenes tours of archives and collections.

​

Applications are due June 10th.

​

Students must commit to the following work schedule:

​

  • Start Date: July 8, 2023

  • End Date: August 26, 2023

  • 12 hours a week

    • Wednesday Evenings and All day Saturday

​

The program is funded by a major grant from the Conrad Prebys Foundation. Interns will receive a stipend of $600

College Internship Program

The Women's Museum of California Internship program is a learning experience for students. Interns must receive course credit for their internship. 

​

The program includes training, direct work experience, professional development, and a mentorship program that connects interns with key Women's Museum of California staff.

​

We welcome students of all majors! Specialization within the following majors are preferred including; History, Museum Studies, Women’s Studies, Library Science, Marketing, Computer Science, Graphic Design, Education, and Event Planning.

Museum Education Internship

The Education Intern will support the museum education team in daily tasks including:

  • Assist in leading educational programs with WMC staff including field trips and First Saturday Programs

  • Help organize public museum programs

  • Create educational resources (worksheets, lesson plans, digital exhibits) for WMC website

​

Marketing Internship

The Marketing Intern will focus on a semester-long project of assisting in the rebranding of the San Diego County Women’s Hall of Fame as well as support the marketing team in daily tasks including:

  • Assist in marketing and advertising promotional activities (e.g. social media, direct mail and web)

  • Manage and update company database and customer relationship management systems (CRM)

  • Help organize marketing events

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Internships are hybrid remote and in-person. Interns will work 5 - 10 hours a week.
